Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES! Printable applications are available at: https://ascensionsheriff.com/news-events Sheriff Bobby Webre would like to make everyone aware of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Scholarship Program. This scholarship will provide assistance to worthy Louisiana students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program. Scholarships of a maximum of $1,000 each will be awarded to graduating high school students from each parish where the Sheriff is an affiliate of the Honorary Membership Program. Students may also apply for the Dawn Shivers Memorial Scholarship of up to $1,500. This scholarship was established in honor of Dawn Shivers, a retired employee of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. Dawn passed away in May 2013, fighting a long battle with cancer. The scholarships are not loans and will be awarded as gifts to defray rising costs of tuition and related expenses in higher education. The only limitations are that applicants be permanent residents of Louisiana; scholarships be utilized in higher education within the state of Louisiana; and students be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students. Completed applications must be submitted by April 1! Winners will be announced in May. Applications have been provided to all high school counselors in Ascension Parish and are available online. You may also visit our Businesses Offices in Donaldsonville and Gonzales to pick up a hard copy. |
Established in 2018, the Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Award was developed in an effort to help subsidize the cost of tuition for students entering their first year of college. All eligible graduating seniors at the 16 schools that participate in the Neighbors Mascot Checking Program are invited to apply.
Schools nominate students based on their character and commitment to living the “Neighbors Way.” Nominated students exemplified the credit union’s core values including Integrity, Respect, Trust, Stability, Community Involvement, Honesty, Empathy, Ethical Behavior, and Fairness. Funds for the program are raised through three major avenues – the internal Employee Payroll Donation Program, the Foundation’s annual fundraiser, Clays for a Cause, and NFCU’s Free Cash Back Checking account, which provides three cents to the foundation for every qualified debit card purchase. The remainder of the funds are generated from miscellaneous fundraisers and direct contributions from NFCU. To date, we have awarded over $200,000 in scholarships to 82 students in the Greater Baton Rouge area. Applications open on January 13, 2025 and close on February 7, 2025.
